FAQ
Questions, answered.
The basics
What is Adminium?
An open-source admin panel you host yourself. Point it at a database and it builds a read-and-write admin from the schema. It also has a Designer that builds a whole app from a description, and a marketplace of ready-made apps.
Is it really free?
Yes. The code is AGPL-3.0, with no limit on tables, pages or users, and no account with us.
Which databases are supported?
PostgreSQL, MySQL and MariaDB, and SQLite, including hosted providers that speak those protocols. You can also start from a schema file with no live connection.
Which languages does the admin speak?
English, German, French, Czech, Danish, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, and Arabic with a full right-to-left layout.
Your data
Does Adminium store my data?
No. It runs on your own server or desktop, and queries go from your instance to your database. Nothing passes through servers of ours.
Does it change my database?
Setup only reads the schema. After that it is a read-and-write admin: people change rows through it, within the roles you set and the rights of the database user you gave it.
Do I need an AI model?
No. Everything except the Designer works with no model at all. The Designer needs a model that can call tools: an Anthropic or OpenAI key, an OpenAI-compatible server, or Ollama on your own machine.
Building with it
Can I change what it generates?
Yes. The pages are files in your project folder: rename fields, hide columns, reorder, add charts and boards, and commit the result.
How is this different from a BI tool?
BI tools are read-only dashboards for analysts. Adminium is where staff create, edit and delete records and run the day-to-day work.
How is it different from a low-code builder?
A builder gives you a blank canvas. Adminium reads your schema and builds the admin first; you change what is already there. It is also free and self-hosted.
What are the marketplace apps?
Open-source apps such as a point of sale, a booking scheduler and a clinic desk. Each brings its customer side, its staff side and the admin behind them, and installs into your own Adminium.
Your database already has the data. Give it an interface.
Free and open source. Running on your own machine in about a minute.
